The BMW i3 is a revolutionary concept designed to be both eco-friendly and sporty. The vehicle has many features that make it friendly for the environment, such as: its lightweight body, electric motor, and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell.
BMW provides an i3 Owner's Manual from which all of these features can be explained in detail:
The body of the BMW i3 is lightweight. The large battery that provides power to the electric motor and other electrical devices adds weight to the vehicle, but the car is still about 400 pounds less than a regular car. This makes it much easier for drivers to accelerate, and easier for the motor to handle driving at high speeds.
BMW i3 owners can charge their vehicles using an AC power source or a DC outlet. While charging on AC power takes longer, it may be more convenient because BMW provides home and public charging stations free of cost.
