BMW: xDrive
At BMW of Milwaukee North, 5990 N Green Bay Ave, xDrive is BMW's electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system, using a multi-plate clutch to vary the front-to-rear torque split automatically based on road conditions and driver input. It comes standard on the X3 and X5, which are sold exclusively as all-wheel-drive models in the current U.S. lineup, and it is available as an option on the 3 Series sedan, which is rear-wheel drive by default.
For winter driving, xDrive-equipped models add a genuine grip advantage on snow-covered roads, though BMW's standard run-flat tires are not the same thing as a true winter tire and should not be assumed to perform like one in deep snow or on ice.
